Remarks made by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis, concerning the Land Registry procedure:
“……. In November 2019, I would like to remind everyone that deadlines for 10 Regional Units will expire, namely for: Kastoria / Florina, the rest of Magnesia and Sporades, Evoia, Achaia, Messinia, Laconia, Argolida / Corinth, West Attica / Attica Islands, Samos / Chios / Ikaria, Aigio and in December the deadlines expire for the islands of Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Ithaca.
Citizens can now declare their properties even out of date without paying any fines. However, from now on we have to inform everyone, and for the sake of convenience, that fines will be activated within the first half of the year 2020.
The amount of the fines will depend on both the value of the property and the time delay. We want to be fair to both consistent citizens and those who have delayed a few weeks or months compared to those who will delay years to declare their property.
That is to say, whoever delays and has more property will pay more than the one who has less property. And anyone who delays 3 years will pay more than the one who delays 3 months.
To this end, the provisions for imposing fines will be prepared based on the previous principals and we believe that as long as there is a wide time frame and timely information from our part, no citizen will ultimately have to pay any fines. Even if they have some difficulties now, even if they have some unavailability now, even if they are abroad, we provide them many months, to fulfill their obligation.
We’re not going to extreme measures. But we cannot show an absolute tolerance directed against consistent citizens, but also against the interests of the national economy, since the Land Registry is an essential development tool.”
